Goldilocks and the Cherry Tree Fairy

Some of us are small enough to sit on the furniture and watch the world go by...

There are days when there is nothing else you would like better than to simply sit in a tree and think...

But Czech summers get pretty hot and it can make a girl kind of sleepy...

Then, it's time to wake up and make the journey to a new home...

Hope you  are all having a super weekend in your own little happy place. x

Eliska's posh bag

I made Eliska a little bag. I think it is rather posh for a two and a half year old, but I don't see why she can't have a cute little handmade bag of her own, so long as she's not been near tomato sauce or the like before wearing it!.

It has some wee frilly bits. The main fabric is from an oriental dress that I bought in a secondhand shop that totally swamped me. I am keeping the top part to wear as a top.

Bags often call to us, 'Buy me,' 'Take me home', 'Love me.' Or maybe that is just me. Anyway, that is why this bag has a 'love me' patch on it. It is what it would say if it could speak.

No amount of coaxing would persaude Eliska to smile for the camera. However the reluctant lady did insist on placing a fairy in her bag. Now, that's my girl. x

These are a few of my favourite things x

Hello, it's me, Im back again already. First, I thought I'd show you this lovely little caff in Mikulov, which is one of my new favourite places. I like to show you the places  I visit. It is my way of letting my little pals in Blighty visit these places with me too and my blog pals too, of course.

I like this corner with the old sewing machine. Lots of the tables in the place are actually old sewing machine tables too. I like the little touches, like the lovely cushion on the chair.

I think the seat below is sweet. It is quite 'Nan style', but I love it.

There is lots of lovely old furniture and a charming sloping roof. Roman's friend says it is 'English style', but I think it is just not typically Czech and  very sweet and comfy.

This old record player is cute.

I thought I'd share some of my favourites things too. I have had the dress below for a few years. It is from ASOS and I think it is my favourite summer frock.

'Pottering' has to be one of my favourite pasttimes. I have been rearranging my favourite things and love my teapot and fairy in a cup!

Meandering and wandering are also some of my favourite things to do.

I like to find funny things like this horse fountain that looks like it is smiling.

I have gone a bit 'The Good Life' since moving here and another favourite pasttime is scoffing the garden produce. The cherries have turned this beautiful shade of deep red and are now delicious. I have eaten bowls of them and am so happy as I adore cherries and they are quite expensive to buy in the UK.

When I first visited the region of Moravia, in the Czech Republic, where I now live, I had no idea what to expect. I think people often associate ex Communist countries like this one with tower blocks and gritty urban landscapes. However, Moravia is actually really pretty and is famed as a wine region. There are lots of vineyards around the local area and little wine cellars, like this one. I think they look like little hobbit houses.

I went to a party at a wine cellar on Friday and the people that have the cellar next door were having a wedding the next day and gave us some littůe biscuits they had prepared for the event. They looked too pretty to eat!

Simple things are often favourite things. This little notebook remnds me of the beauty and magic of this country.

My little girl is just smashing and my most cherished treasure of all. She likes to go to sleep, surrounded by her favourite cushion and toys. Paddington is currently in favour. When she has gone to sleep, I remove the toys and cushions so she has room to kick her little legs around. Doesn't she look a treat here? I treasure her so much. I was always terrified beyond belief of childbirth and never thought I would have children, so am more than delighted to have her.

I think we are all at least a little afraid of the unexpectedness of life, but we also know that is what makes it exciting. It's just before the start of a new week and time to remember that bad times pass and that great things can happen. You can have the new beginning you deserve each week that brings new possibilities. Don't fear the worst, just expect the very best. Who knows what may happen and what you may achieve?

Elfie the Elf Girl

This is Elfie, the Elf Girl. Looks harmless enough, doesn't she? Don't be fooled.
Elfie is a night owl. She feels most alive at night when she is filled with sudden bursts of energy...

'Wow, I¨m pooped!' says Elfie. 'Coming alive at night is quite exhausting!'

Then she's back on the shelf and not a peep out of her.

Castle or cottage?

I am a fan of the cottagey look, even though it may be a little twee at times. There are occasions when I worry I lapse into 'bad taste' territory. Today, in a neighbouring town, we bought this chair. Roman says it looks as though it belongs in a castle. I explained that sone slightly over the top things mixed with a few rough around the edges things works for a good look overall. I could have gone on to explain that as an English girl, my home is my castle anyway, but managed to keep that one to myself. Any road, as they say in the York of Shire, here is the chair.

Please forgive the trailing wires on the floor. There will be none of that sort of carry on in the new house and I will be terribly tidy and organised, honestly. Now then, how about a cushion. Oh, go on then, if you insist.

I love the flower detail.

I know it is not an armchair as such, but it is surprisingly comfy. I think I am going to call it my 'throne', hee hee. What do you think folks? Could you live with this chair?

Summer ghosts and summer smiles

I'm not successful in conventional terms...

I worry too much about things I can't change...

I need to smile more...

Wear your favourite things today...

Here and now is all we have...

Be in the moment...

Grow things...

Sit outside for a while...

What you find may surprise you...

It is all around you...

Ghosts of the past might never leave...

Even on the sunniest days...

Don't fear them...

Make them your friends. x

The twisted spire and the lost shop

I had a wander around Brno on Friday. The place seems to come alive in the sun and I remember all the little details that I love. The story is that when the man who built these twisty towers heard he would not be being paid enough, he deliberately made the one in the centre wonky. I do think it is beautiful, like something from a twisted fairytale.

I adore details like these decorative windows.

Have you ever lost  a shop and imagined it never existed? Somone took me to this lovely shop last year and I could never find it since. It was like it disappeared, though truthfully, my sense of direction is dire. However, after wandering down a few side streets yesterday I found it. There were lots of fairies there and lots and lots of Greengate which I swooned over. The flowery teapot is my favourite and I think I will be saving my pennies to buy it.

These balconies are so dreamy and romantic. I would love to have  a shop housed away there. I felt a bit like I was spying on the man there, but he was incidental to the pics, honest!

There was a puppet theatre taking place in the town square and I chanced upon this charming fellow. He frightens me a bit, he looks very stern!

I reworked one of Eliska's dolls that I wasn't too keen on and she is now wearing a summer tea dress with a little butterfly on it, a flower in her hair and velvety shoes. I am never sure whether to put noses on my dolls as they sometimes look a bit funny when I do them. What do you think?

I brought some fairies home and here they are on my dresser.

We have strawberries in the garden and lots more fruit and veg on its way. Hurray for summer!

I am still having problems leaving comments and will still be passing on blog awards. I want to address these things in  a separate post coming soon. Hope you are all having a super weekend. Thanks for all your lovely comments. I hope to be able to comment in return soon. x
